Neerja Sweets: The Hidden Gem Indian Restaurant We Found in Samrong

🔴 June 2026 Update: Still Great, Still a Bargain (But Prices Have Nudged Up!)

I finally had a chance to bring my husband—who absolutely loves Indian food—to Neerja Sweets. The verdict? The food is still fantastic, earning an enthusiastic double thumbs-up from both of us!

However, prices have increased slightly since my first visit in November 2025. It’s still a “cheap eat,” just no longer dirt cheap. For instance, the Vegetarian Thali Set we loved has gone up from 150 THB to 199 THB (we skipped it this time).

Here is what we ordered on this visit (Total Bill: 560 THB):

  • Jeera Rice: 80 THB
  • Onion Bhaji: 80 THB
  • Mattar Mushroom Masala: 180 THB
  • Bhindi Masala: 150 THB (Up from 120 THB)
  • Mango Lassi: 70 THB (For comparison, the Sweet Lassi was 40 THB last time)

💡 Pro-Tip for Big Eaters: If you have a big appetite, they now offer a 299 THB Set that is an absolute steal. It comes loaded with biryani rice, garlic kulcha, butter kulcha, mutton rogan josh, butter chicken, and a salad. Alternatively, they also have Super Special 599 THB Set.

We still highly recommend this place for great Indian food that won’t break the bank!

Original post:

Finding a truly high-quality Indian restaurant in Samrong—an area not typically known for a large Indian community—was completely unexpected. But what a discovery! Both my niece and I immediately agreed that Neerja Sweets and Indian Restaurant definitely qualifies as a hidden gem worth seeking out.

We were lucky to stumble upon it, and the fact that they’ve been operating in this location for four years speaks volumes about their consistency and loyal customer base.

The Dining Experience and The Good Sign

We walked in around 12:00 PM on a weekday and immediately saw a good sign: the only other table with customers was occupied by Thai-Indians. That instant local endorsement confirmed we were in the right place.

We decided to order strategically for sharing:

  1. Vegetarian Thali Set (150 THB)
  2. Aloo Ghobi (Cauliflower and Potato Curry, 100 THB)

The food was so incredibly satisfying that I placed an order for takeaway: another Vegetarian Thali and Bhindi Masala (Okra Curry, 120 THB).

What Stood Out on the Plate

The taste and quality of the curries—the Aloo Ghobi, Bhindi Masala, and the Thali selections—were spot on. Every dish felt authentic and expertly spiced.

Key Highlights:

  • Exceptional Thali Value: At just 150 THB, the Vegetarian Thali set offers incredible value. They are incredibly generous with the rotis and breads included in the set.
  • Unique Dal: My niece pointed out that the thali set featured a red lentil dal, which was a welcome surprise. We usually encounter the common yellow dal, but this red variety was perfectly seasoned and distinctively delicious.

A Note on Sweetness

We ordered the Sweet Lassi (40 THB) and Masala tea (25 THB), but found both to be a tad sweet for our palates. If you prefer your drinks less sugary, be sure to ask for less sweet when ordering.

Neerja Sweets Verdict and Details

Neerja Sweets is a definite winner. The food quality and value are remarkable, and we will absolutely be back, especially since we frequent this area. We even noticed another Indian restaurant nearby, and we look forward to trying it soon for comparison!

This gem is located deep within the Samrong area (behind Imperial World Samrong), which makes it perfect for local residents or anyone willing to venture slightly off the usual tourist path for truly authentic, affordable Indian food. We found the easiest way to walk in was via Sukhumvit 78, opposite The Cabana condo.

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.
