A Perfect Riverside Dinner & Ice Cream Pairing in Chachoengsao: Pair Pa Yong & Mint’Cha

Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan

Usually, our trips to Chachoengsao are rushed, fast-paced family affairs centered entirely around local festivals. But on our recent visit, we finally had the chance to slow down. After paying our respects at Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan, we stopped by a relative’s house before heading off to enjoy a relaxed, breezy early evening by the water.

Thanks to our local relatives, we were introduced to a fantastic riverside dinner spot, followed immediately by some of the best artisanal ice cream in town. If you are looking to extend your temple day trip into a delicious, laid-back evening, this is the perfect itinerary.

🍽️ Dinner with a View: Pair Pa Yong (แพพยงค์ ริมน้ำ)

Located right on the banks of the scenic Bang Pakong River, Pair Pa Yong is a wonderful floating-style restaurant offering fantastic local food and a relaxing atmosphere. While its open-air, riverside nature meant there were a few flies hovering around the table, the peaceful setting and delicious dishes more than made up for it.

Our relatives treated us to an excellent meal here, and it instantly went on our list of places to return to. The restaurant is highly accessible for international travelers, providing a fully bilingual menu that makes ordering an absolute breeze.

🎉 Birthday Discount Hack: If you happen to be visiting during your birthday month, make sure to bring your ID! Pair Pa Yong offers a 5% discount for your entire birthday month, and a generous 10% discount if you dine there on your actual birthday.

🍦 Dessert Next Door: Mint’Cha Ice Cream

While you can actually order your dessert directly to your table while dining at Pair Pa Yong, we decided to walk over to Mint’Cha to enjoy their crisp air conditioning after dinner.

It was an incredible choice—their ice cream is genuinely fantastic. I ordered the Rum Raisin (79 THB) and was seriously impressed by how rich it was, featuring a wonderfully strong, authentic rum flavor. (Prices vary by flavor tier, starting from 69 THB). My father-in-law was also thrilled with his choice: Durian with Sticky Rice (89 THB).

Whether you want to cool off inside their cozy shop or have a scoop served alongside your riverside meal, it is the perfect sweet ending to the day.

  • Souvenir Tip: I loved it so much that I bought some to take back to Bangkok! The shop provided plenty of dry ice, ensuring the ice cream was still rock-solid by the time we arrived at our destination.

🗺️ Plan Your Visit

Both spots sit right next to each other along the river, making them incredibly easy to pair together for an effortless evening out.

If you are looking for a great meal, beautiful river views, and premium ice cream in Chachoengsao, this duo comes highly recommended!

Not Your Typical Tourist

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.
