The Good Old Traditional Herbal Soup At Jade Garden Restaurant
2026 UPDATE: A New Home in Pandan Perdana

Looking back at my last update on Jade Garden, it strikes me just how long I’ve been away from home. While searching for a “herbal soup” place to bring my aunt, who is currently recovering from a weak constitution, I looked up my old favorite and discovered they had moved.

The original Jalan Tong Shin branch at Blue Boy Mansion—a place so tethered to my old work memories—has sadly closed its doors. It feels like a small piece of my history has been wiped out with that closure. However, the legacy continues at their new location in Pandan Perdana, which has been open for about a year now.

Jade Garden is now 41 years old (the menu proudly states “Since 1985”), still serving the original recipes of the founder, a former TCM doctor. While the setting has changed, the essence remains.
The Experience & The Menu We visited during a Sunday lunch, and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet. We were told the weekend crowd usually descends for dinner, and as a result, a few side dishes weren’t quite ready when we arrived at noon.

The menu has been streamlined to eight signature soups (down from the 11 I remember years ago). A heartfelt thank you to my aunt for the treat; our total bill came to RM 206 for three people, which included three soups, a meat dish, sliced fish, vegetables, and drinks. A note for the health-conscious: the “Red Date” drink was a bit too sweet for our liking.
One detail that underscores their TCM roots: they do not serve tea or coffee. The staff explained that these drinks are not to be consumed after herbal soup, as they can “offset” or neutralize the medicinal benefits of the herbs. It’s a refreshing sign of a restaurant that prioritizes the health of its diners over profit. We settled for their “Red Date” drink, which was a tad too sweet for our group, but certainly better for the constitution.
The Soups: 2026 Edition The quality is still exceptional, though the price tag now requires a bit more careful consideration. When dining in a group of three, sharing might be the wiser path!

#2 Tonic Herbal Soup (RM 21.90)

#4 Alertness Herbal Soup (RM 26.90)
#1 Signature Tonic Herbal Soup (RM 35.90): My aunt had this 10-herb black chicken blend. It’s a 10-hour brew designed to remedy Qi deficiency, kidney weakness, and fatigue. Since 2016, this has seen a 50% inflation, though considering the skyrocketing cost of raw Chinese herbs (which have seen 100%+ increases in the last decade), the price is a fair reflection of the labor and quality involved.
#2 Tonic Herbal Soup (RM 21.90): My cousin opted for this “Six Tonics” chicken soup, perfect for those who catch colds easily or have a “weak stomach.”
#4 Alertness Herbal Soup (RM 26.90): I chose the “Seven Tonics with Quail.” It’s targeted at those of us who are mentally exhausted or “late sleepers,” helping with focus and preventing dizziness.

ORIGINAL POST (Circa 2016)
Jade Garden Restaurant at Blue Boy Mansion, Jalan Tong Shin, used to be one of my regular lunch place. We come here whenever my friends and I wanted healthy, nourishing herbal soup. Really, sometimes, I am more Chinese than I would have liked.
Looking for post natal nourishment soup, Jade Garden came to my mind. No, not for me lah, but for Stephy, one my ex-TFB-teammates. I am thankful and grateful that Amy, another ex-teammate, agreed to accompany me for my soup-run. She even paid for our meal! I am indeed blessed with my many fabuloso ex-teammates, some remain close long after my exit from this and that company.

Jade Garden’s super-kow Tonic Herbal Soup (RM 23.90): 10 herbs with black chicken, good to remedy Qi deficiency, post natal nourishment, fatigue, etc, is the star of this soup-run trip. I then had to deliver the soup, 17km away, to this new mommy.

As for dining in, I had their Moisture-removal Arrowroot Soup (RM 16.90): seven tonics with pork lean.

My dining companion ordered Nourishing Ginseng Soup (RM 18.90): four tonics with chicken.
They do not have a menu for dishes. The lady boss rattled off some dishes, and we just ordered one fried vege (sweet potato leaves) to go with our soup.

This hidden gem is still frequented by many diners when I was there. I guess there are not many restaurants with good old healthy-herbal soup in their menu.

Soup price has skyrocketed so much since my last visit, but it’s a price worth paying. Their soup menu has changed to a booklet-type, instead of A4 size. There are also less soup types offering, reduced from 11 to 9.
