Behind the Waves: A Maiden Visit to Siam Amazing Park

Founded in November 1980, Siam Amazing Park—or Suan Siam (สวนสยาม) to locals—is a legendary piece of Bangkok’s entertainment history. Despite its decades of operation, it was a destination I had never managed to visit, largely due to its far-flung location on the eastern edges of the city. My husband fondly recalls it being an absolute pinnacle of grand entertainment in the old days, long before newer contenders like Dream World arrived on the scene in 1993.
🎟️ The Dual-Pricing Hurdle (And a Helpful Loophole)
Lately, the park has experienced a massive resurgence in footfall. A government-backed domestic tourism stimulus campaign, Thai Chuay Thai Plus (ไทยช่วยไทยพลัส), granted free park entry to registered Thai citizens, which also allows them to bring up to three “Accompanying Guests” at a special promotional rate. This influx has breathed vibrant new life into the grounds, a fact happily confirmed by several park food vendors we chatted with during our visit.

Initially, I was highly hesitant to go. I had read online that long-term visa holders are excluded from local Thai pricing, which can be a frustrating deterrent. However, my husband spoke directly with a helpful staff member at the gate who confirmed that I was allowed to utilize the campaign’s “Accompanying Person” (Phu Tittam / ผู้ติดตาม) benefit.
By showing my passport and my Non-O visa stamp, I secured a heavily discounted entry rate of just 300 Baht. This gave me unlimited, all-day access to both the water park and the amusement park—a massive discount compared to the standard walk-in rate.
💡 While standard walk-in rates can be steep, you can completely bypass the premium by planning ahead. The official website offers steep promotions if you purchase at least two days in advance, while Klook offers great discounts requiring just one day of advance booking. Even though the promotional text on the website states “For Thai Residents Only,” it is well worth checking at the gate if you hold a long-term visa, as my experience proved they can be beautifully accommodating.
🎢 Pacing the Park: Beating the Heat and the Queues
Like Malaysia’s Sunway Lagoon, Siam Amazing Park operates on a compact 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM schedule. This timeframe makes it a logistical challenge to maximize your day while dodging both the blistering tropical sun (or sudden rains) and post-lunch queues.

The park groups its attractions into five distinct zones: Xtreme World, Adventure World, Family World, Small World, and Water World. Major thrill rides are clustered in Xtreme World, including the Vortex, Boomerang, and Log Flume. Because individual tickets for these main rides cost 80 to 120 Baht per turn, an All-Inclusive Unlimited Rides Pass is by far the most economical choice.

If you are visiting with family, be sure to check the minimum height restrictions before queuing—they generally range from 100cm to 140cm. During our visit, we saw a heartbreaking moment where a little girl was wailing because she was just a bit too short for a ride that all her older siblings passed.

⚠️ Health, Safety, & Maintenance Notes: A board at the front ticket counter clearly indicates which rides are closed for scheduled maintenance (the Giant Drop was closed during our visit). Height limits are strictly enforced at the entrance of each ride. Additionally, standard medical warning signs are clearly posted—those with heart issues or bone/nerve conditions are advised to sit these out, and the park maintains standard waivers stating they are not responsible for personal injuries or losses.
The Ideal Strategy for Your Itinerary:

- Morning (10:00 AM): Arrive right at opening. Head straight to Xtreme World to clear the popular rollercoasters before the school groups and tour crowds form long queues after lunch. (Note for the Vortex coaster: you will be required to kick off your shoes before boarding! For security, you can safely leave loose belongings at the designated shelves at the ride entrances.)
- Mid-day / Late Afternoon: Dedicate this block to Water World to cool off when the UV index peaks, or save it for the late afternoon when the sun begins to mellow.
♿ Accessibility Note: For families traveling with toddlers or elderly relatives, the park offers both stroller and wheelchair rentals, as well as an internal golf cart shuttle service to help you navigate the expansive grounds easily.
🌊 Water World & World-Class Amenities

The crown jewel of the water park is undoubtedly its massive Wave Pool—officially certified by the Guinness World Records as the largest wave pool on the planet.

What impressed me most about Water World were the exceptional, incredibly thoughtful amenities available for rent. They have thought of absolutely everything. You can rent standard items like swimwear, bathrobes, towels, and lockers, but they also offer swim diapers for toddlers, inflatable tubes, and even push-up bra pad inserts. It makes it incredibly easy to visit spontaneously without packing a massive gear bag.

While the park feels generally safe enough to leave basic belongings on beach chairs, if you are carrying passports or expensive cameras, definitely utilize the locker service for 100 Baht per day. If the lockers near the main ticketing counter are full, don’t worry—there is a secondary locker station located right inside the water park zone. (You will also notice plenty of visitors walking around with waterproof phone pouches in the pool).
🍲 Halal Options & Nostalgic Eats

When hunger strikes, you can choose from a few standalone restaurants or head straight to the open-air Bazaar Food Village. This food court features an impressive variety of options, including several certified Halal stalls. The food court operates on a cashless system; you can load up a physical cash card at the counter or simply scan via Thai QR/PromptPay. For those looking for an all-you-can-eat option, there is also the “Amazing Buffet” restaurant located just before the main park entrance.

Keep a sharp lookout for Siam Steak while exploring. This is a pioneering Thai-style burger brand that has been operating in Thailand since 1975—long before massive foreign fast-food chains like KFC, McDonald’s, or Burger King ever entered the Thai market!
🚫 Food Policy: Outside food and beverages are strictly prohibited inside the park. There is a designated holding area at the main entrance where you must leave any outside snacks or drinks before passing through security.

⚠️ A Crucial Water Tip: The central beverage and ice station inside the food court (marked by the Double Shock Trolley) gets bottlenecked with massive, agonizingly slow queues. Save yourself the frustration: buy your bottled water from one of the smaller standalone restaurants or independent food kiosks sprinkled around the park before you sit down to eat your meal.
🛍️ Bonus Stop: Bangkok World

To enter or exit the amusement park, you must walk through Bangkok World, a beautifully designed cultural zone featuring replicas of historic Bangkok landmarks and old-school shophouses. This area is completely free to enter and serves as an excellent, air-conditioned mid-afternoon break spot for shopping and taking photos.
If you want to step out to explore Bangkok World or drop items off at your car during the day, you can seamlessly walk in and out of the main amusement park—just ensure the staff stamps your hand at the turnstiles before you step out so you can re-enter later.
🕰️ Timing Tip: Bangkok World operates from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, meaning it stays open an hour later than the main park. You don’t need to cut your ride time short to see it; you can easily explore this beautiful cultural zone after the amusement park gates close at 6:00 PM!
