Ya Kun Laksa and Mee Siam in Bangkok

I passed by Ya Kun at Mercury Ville countless times, and was drawn to their advertised Singapore Laksa. Price has always been a deterrent, until yesterday.

Thanks D for entertaining my whims, and for forking 400 baht for our lunch.

There’s a price to pay for my cravings. 200-baht-set-meal is not your everyday-lunch kind of food. Sigh. Malaysian/Singaporean food is not widely available in Thailand, unlike Thai food in other countries.

Ya Kun’s set meal comes with a Ya Kun Signature Drink.

My Laksa .. slightly salty soup, and noodle texture is off

D’s Mee Siam

Singapore Laksa for me, and Mee Siam for him. No sambal provided.

240 baht Kaya Jar

240 baht selling price for a jar of kaya! Daylight robbery!! The selling price at Singapore is around SGD 5 / 130 baht only.

Not Your Typical Tourist

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.

        Hi WK Swee,

I chanced upon the restaurant .. HD (stands for Hok Dee) at The Street Ratchada today. Their laksa is definitely much better than Ya Kun!
