Butter Bakery: Sourdough Highlights & Aesthetic Vibes in Lat Phrao

An old friend of mine once admitted to being deeply suspicious of the word “famous” when attached to any eatery, and I can’t help but share that skepticism. So, when I read online that Butter Bakery in Bangkok originated from the “famous” Chonburi establishment Butter and Bourbon, I took the hype with a grain of salt—even though online reviews were undeniably glowing.

After expanding into the capital last year, the brand introduced a stylish, minimalist Korean-meets-Scandinavian aesthetic that quickly caught the attention of social media. Originally opening in Sathorn, they have since expanded with a larger location in Lat Phrao (designed to support their catering operations) and another branch in Asoke.

Watching an interview with the young brother-and-sister duo behind the brand, it’s clear they have a sharp vision: pairing great branding with surprisingly affordable prices.

The Midday Crowd & TikTok Popularity

Not realizing just how popular Butter Bakery had become—having only caught a glimpse of it on a local program—we decided to visit their Lat Phrao branch on a weekday afternoon after lunch. My plan was simple: enjoy a quiet afternoon reading while my husband worked on his laptop.

(Pro-Tip: Plug points are available at select seats, so snag one early if you need to charge up!)

Boy, was I wrong!

Aside from one other customer working on her laptop, the bakery saw a steady stream of visitors throughout the afternoon. Almost everyone was busy snapping photos and creating content—it turns out Butter Bakery is a massive “check-in” hotspot on TikTok!

Arriving around 1:40 PM, I noticed the pastry shelves were already half-empty. We waited around hoping for a fresh batch, but the staff explained it had been an unusually busy day and many signature items had sold out early.

💡 Pro-Tip: If you have specific pastries or cakes on your wishlist, arrive early in the morning before popular items sell out!

The Tasting: Natural Yeast Sourdough & Sweet Treats

Since our goal was to relax until their 5:00 PM closing time, we ordered a mix of sweet and savory options:

  • Natural Yeast Sourdough (Highlight!): Finding exceptional sourdough in Bangkok can be a hit-or-miss experience, but Butter Bakery’s version is a total winner. They use natural yeast sourdough, which gives it a fantastic texture and depth of flavor. Having learned more about the process through my sister’s family—who maintain their own sourdough starter at home—I really appreciate the time, care, and science that goes into baking natural yeast bread. (Curious about the process? Read more about the difference between natural yeast and sourdough starter).
  • Carrot Cake (90 THB): Baked in a modest, muffin-style portion, this was the perfect midday pick-me-up. I love that their sweet treats come in manageable sizes so you don’t feel overwhelmed trying to finish them.
  • Easy Breakfast (150 THB): Served all day, this set comes with 4 slices of sourdough, brown butter, and jam. While enjoyable, the brown butter tasted and looked fairly similar to regular butter to me.

If you’re looking for a heavier meal, they offer an all-day Danish Breakfast (250 THB) or Full Breakfast (250 THB), alongside a savory main menu featuring pasta, fish & chips, steaks, and sandwiches—we definitely plan to return to try their sandwiches next time!

Amenities, Workshops & Pet-Friendly Treats

  • Dog-Friendly Treats: They stock “Wiggly Buddies” doggie ice cream in Ice Cream Bar format (129 THB / 75g) and Minibite sizes (119 THB / 60g), so I assume furry companions are welcomed here.
  • Imprint Workshop: The bakery hosts creative eco-friendly imprint workshops (350 THB) where participants turn food waste and fabric leftovers into unique, memorable crafts.
  • Wi-Fi: Available throughout the cafe—just ask the counter staff for the password.
  • Parking Logistics: On-site parking is available, though cars are parked back-to-back. If another customer needs to exit, the security guard or staff will come into the cafe to ask owners to move their vehicles.

When navigating to the Lat Phrao location, note that there are two Yell buildings in the alley. Make sure to drive all the way to the end of the road to find the correct building where Butter Bakery is attached!

Not Your Typical Tourist

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.
