A simple tummy-warmer congee at Chok Chai 4

Je Giang Jog Gong Brab

เจ๊เกียง โจ๊กกองปราบ (Je Giang Jog Gong Brab) at Chok Chai 4 is one of D’s favorite, and it has also became a favorite of mine. They are open 24 hours a day, so congee anytime that you like.

2 bowld of porridge. 12 types of condiments.

Thai congee. Not just a congee. But one that comes with many condiments, for customers to ‘balance’ the flavors of thir congee. A little bit more of this, and a little bit more of that.

Chilli powder. Sugar. Chillies in vinegar. Fish sauce. Chillies sauce. White ground pepper. Vermicelli rice noodles. Ginger. Spring onion. Crispy fried things. And two other sauces ..

We only used some of the condiments, and D of course used more condiments than me. He had 6 out of 12, whilst I had 3.

Pretty as it is, but no .. we need a lil’ bit more

1. Vermicelli rice noodles

3. White ground pepper

3. Chilli in vinegar

4. Ginger

5. Spring onion

6. Some fried stuffs

THB 92 for a satisfying meal of two.

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.
