Stepping Back in Time at Thantawan Cafe (Samrong)

If you are looking for a quiet, character-filled local escape away from the standard mall chains at Imperial World Samrong, Thantawan Cafe ทานตะวัน คาเฟ่ is a fantastic breakout space. Opened in January 2025 in Soi Wat Dan Samrong (Pornsawang 1), this hidden gem offers a beautiful pause from the modern bustle.

What makes Thantawan truly special is how it preserves the old-world charm of its neighborhood. The café is housed in a building that originally operated as a vintage haberdashery, selling needles, buttons, yarn, and sewing and embroidery supplies. Rather than erasing that history, the café has lovingly maintained the nostalgic, vintage feel of the original shop.

If you want to sip a great brew while traveling back in time, Thantawan Cafe is well worth the detour.

Not Your Typical Tourist

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.
